Battleground Texas is attempting to dodge a statewide investigation and potential legal action after Project Veritas released an undercover investigation showing Battleground Texas illegally copying phone numbers off of voter registration forms.
“The video speaks for itself. The beauty of video is actions are undeniable and clear for everyone to see,” said James O’Keefe. “Moreover, the Secretary of State has made it clear stating the “law applies to volunteer deputy registrars.”
The attorney for Battleground Texas is arguing that Texas law forbidding registrations officials from “transcribing, copying or otherwise record a telephone number furnished on a registration application” doesn’t apply to volunteer deputy registrars of which Battleground Texas is using.
An official investigation has been opened by the Bexar County DA’s office, who said “she was looking at “possible penal implications,” including charges of abuse of official capacity or even misuse of official information — a third-degree felony punishable by up to 10 years in jail and a $10,000 fine.”
